Google going after Unnatural Mobile Optimization

18 June 2013

Google recently started targeting mobile sites, as black hat mobile sites started to rise in early June. From the manual web spam team, Pierre Far and Yoshikiyo Kat commented -

"To improve the search experience for smartphone users and address their pain points, we plan to roll out several ranking changes in the near future that address sites that are misconfigured for smartphone users."

According to the comments made in the chat, the worst mistake you can make is having a broken or faulty re-direct for Mobile devices and crawlers, this was the #1 cause for Ranking loss for small site owners.

The main features I'd suggest for Mobile optimization are:

Optimizing Images - Making sure all images are adjustable to fit different sizes of devices as well as compressed to load faster.

Mobile Friendly Backlinks - If you have other mobile sites or can outreach to guest postings on responsive sites then you tend to rank pretty nicely.

Content Optimization - Have videos and all your text in a adjustable and responsive design so it'll fit to any screen resolution and fit to the Google Mobile Bot's needs.

I hope a few of these tips will help you improve your Mobile SEO!
